Choose only the suitable part of Ocean Path

From a Bar Harbor base, Acadia's Ocean Path offers a coastal outing, but it is not one uniformly smooth stroller route. NPS describes the Sand Beach–Thunder Hole segment as concrete and packed gravel, about 0.7 miles one way. Beyond Thunder Hole, surfaces become rocky and uneven; two staircases occur about 1.4 miles into the route. The park explicitly warns of steep ocean drops and keeping children away from edges. Consider a short out-and-back on the initial section after checking conditions, rather than promising a complete stroller hike. A carrier does not remove cliff hazards or the need to turn back.

October 20 requires a car-oriented backup

For October 20, 2026, Cadillac Summit Road still falls within the published vehicle-reservation season, May 20–October 25. The reservation is separate from the park entrance pass, and Cadillac is not served by Island Explorer. NPS's shuttle page lists service through October 13, so do not build an October 20 baby itinerary around that bus without obtaining updated confirmation. Choose a daytime summit slot if it better preserves the baby's routine; sunrise is not required for access. Save reservation information before departure and retain a shorter coast visit or lodging break if weather, parking, or infant needs make the summit impractical.
